Our Approach to Learning and Development

Our guidance outlines how we support and nurture the children in our care, fostering a lifelong love of learning and discovery. We are committed to creating an environment where children are inspired to achieve, explore, and grow at their own pace.

We provide open-ended opportunities for exploration, allowing children to investigate and learn through hands-on experiences. Our skilled staff are actively engaged in extending and enriching each child’s understanding, ensuring that learning is both meaningful and enjoyable. Our team has a total of 134 years of combined experience that is simply incredible. We share our knowledge, passion & dedication with the children who join us every day.

Children’s development is guided by the seven areas of learning, with initial emphasis placed on the three prime areas when a child joins our setting:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language Development
  • Physical Development

After a child has been with us for six weeks, we track their progress and provide a detailed report for parents. This record helps us, and families, to celebrate growth and identify areas for further development throughout their time with us.

For example, we may set a goal for a child to recite a four-line poem from memory. To achieve this, staff introduce the poem, revisit it regularly, and enhance the experience with props and interactive storytelling. Once the child demonstrates confidence, a new poem is introduced. This process encourages a range of skills including self-confidence, communication, language, literacy, and quality one-to-one time with an adult. We believe that our team are the best educators—second only to parents.

Similarly, if we aim to teach a child a skill such as baking a bread roll, we begin by introducing related concepts through play-based learning, such as activities in the mud kitchen or with play dough. This might include identifying ingredients, discussing measurements, and exploring how yeast works. Once the foundational skills are established, we progress to baking together. This activity integrates a variety of developmental areas, including physical coordination, numeracy, prediction, and communication.
