Activities for Home

Dear Families
Knowing how unsettling and worrying a time this is for everyone I have also put together a bit of advice on how to support small children through this strange time. As a parent to two young boys myself I know first hand how difficult it can be to find all the answers to your children’s questions when you don’t know them yourself. Supporting children’s anxiety can often feel challenging but even more so when we are all anxious ourselves. I hope some of the information I have included is of benefit.
I hope everyone stays well and safe,
Take Care

Building our independence skills

At pre-school we are so proud of our children as they work hard to master their self help skills. From serving and chopping their own snack to helping each other with coats and shoes they try really hard to be independent. They have even been busy washing the dishes and cups after snack time! Well done everyone.

Tidying the Garden

Our children have been very busy gardening and clearing out all the vegetable plants they grew last spring. They always show us great team work and offer help to their friends.
The children have voted that in the new year they would like to grow tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers and peas. We can’t wait to have lots of growing fun with them again!!

Firework Biscuits

With bonfire night approaching the children have enjoyed decorating their biscuits at the cafe using brightly coloured icing and sprinkles to make fireworks. We have talked all about fire works and bonfire night. The children are excited to see all the ‘fizzy’ colours lighting up the sky!!

Voting at Pre-school

We have used our developing democracy skills to learn all about voting!

The children had a range of stories they wanted us to read so we took a class vote. The children lined up next to the story they wanted to choose and counted how many children were in each line . They were then able to tell the teachers which vote had the biggest number and which had the smallest number. The story with the biggest number is the one we enjoyed all together.

Muddy Puddle Walk

The children have had a wonderfully muddy walk in the beautiful West Wycombe Park!

We enjoyed jumping in lots of muddy puddles, running through streams, finding swans and cygnets on the lake and mushrooms in the woods. We used our listening skills to see if we could hear owls and foxes moving in the leaves and found a giant bear cave to explore Lots of our families joined us for our magical adventure through the secret door.

Giant Bubbles

We had the best time with our large bubble experiment! Looking at how much soap and water we needed and talking about our bubbles being see-through or translucent! We love experiments at pre-school and being mad scientists to help our learning.

Cooking

What a wonderful week the children have had making love heart cookies! They have practised cracking eggs, sifting flour, mixing and rolling dough. They were very yummy!
